RESUMEN

El análisis del crecimiento y su adecuada valoración constituyen uno de los núcleos básicos de la pediatría, tanto en la vertiente de investigación básica como de actividad clínica. En este trabajo se revisan, desde una perspectiva clínica, los aspectos fundamentales del patrón decrecimiento, los principales factores reguladores y el esquema para valorar tanto el crecimiento en sentido estricto, a través de la antropometría, como el proceso de desarrollo o maduración, mediante los dos métodos utilizados habitualmente en la clínica: la maduración ósea y la maduración sexual así como las principales técnicas de estimación de la talla adulta.



ABSTRACT

The study and evaluation of growth is one of the most fundamental concepts in pediatrics, not only in research, but also in the clinic. This manuscript will review, from a clinical point of view, the basic aspects of the human pattern of growth and the main growth factors involved in its regulation, as well as how to evaluate growth in the strictest sense of the word through methods of anthropometry. Evaluation of the process of development and maturation by using the two methods most commonly used in the clinic, analysis of bone maturation and sexual maturation, as well as the principal techniques for the estimation of adult height, will also be revised.
